In January, three of our
members began their new three-year term as Deacon. During these next few
months, they will introduce, or reintroduce, themselves in this column. Jo
Ecklund knows the duties of a Deacon well as she begins her third term.
Below she shares a little personal history.
Born and raised in
Coffeyville, Kansas, I always attended church, Sunday School, Vacation
Bible School and youth rallies growing up. I married my high school
sweetheart, and we moved to Blythe, CA, the day after the wedding.
My husband worked for an
airline, and we were transferred over the years,
from stations in
California, to Idaho and Washington state. We had two daughters. We
celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary a few months before my husband
died of a brain tumor at age 44. I was a stay-at-home mom until widowed.
It was then that I attended Community College and began 17 years of
working in medical offices.
Our youngest daughter
and family live in Alberta, Canada. Our oldest daughter and family live in
Lompoc. Their oldest daughter is on mission in Argentina.
I moved to Lompoc in
June 1988, joining First Presbyterian Church that Fall. Over the years I
have served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and Elder, twice.
